The Ooma Telo is a revolutionary device that allows you to call anywhere in the U.S. for free. Just pay applicable taxes and fees. You can also make international calls for next to nothing. Telo is easy to set up and even easier to use. You simply connect the device to your high-speed Internet and your existing phone, and that's it. You don't need a computer, and you don't need a headset. With the Ooma Telo, you'll be ready to start calling and saving money within minutes.
NOTE: The Ooma Telo requires high-speed Internet and a router (sold separately).
In today?s connected home environment with Internet file sharing, video streaming, on-line gaming, Ooma?s PureVoice Technology delivers clear audio even if substandard calling conditions exist. Ooma PureVoice Technology is composed of four key components.
Ooma uses an advanced voice compression algorithm that reduces bandwidth consumption by 60% over standard VoIP technology. That leaves you with more bandwidth for all other online activities and increases the likelihood that your voice traffic will be delivered properly by your ISP.
Even though Ooma uses only a fraction of the bandwidth of standard VoIP technology, preserving voice quality requires that those packets arrive on time. The Ooma Telo prioritizes voice packets without slowing down the rest of your network. This way you can enjoy crystal clear calls even as you're uploading your latest video clips.
Packet loss is the enemy of VoIP - it can cause voice to sound stuttered or garbled. The Ooma Telo detects packet loss on your Internet connection and automatically sends redundant packets to boost the clarity of your phone call.
Ooma takes your privacy seriously. We use the same encryption technology governments use to protect classified data to protect your conversations. This makes Ooma even more secure than the traditional landline.
Three-way Conference Calls
Need to make dinner plans with two of your friends? Ooma's got you covered. Once you're on a call, press the second-line button to make or take a second call. Press down both line buttons at once, and you've got yourself a conference call.

Summary: Great device
I read hundreds of reviews before I decided to buy the Ooma Telo. I can tell you that the initial firmware download took aobut 10 minutes and then my unit was ready. I made several calls from the device to landline/cell phones and then back and forth. Not a single problem. I didn't even have to adjust my QOS settings and the call was crystal clear. Goodbye expensive (and the rates are going up again) Cox Digital Telephone. Ooma is doing the same thing, with more features, and as good or better voice quality for a heck of a lot cheaper.

Summary: Couldn't get it to work---plus their penalty fee for that
I just got this unit. For me (separate modem and router) setup was extremely difficult---not in terms of connections, in terms of things working once connected. I worked with three different support people (local ISP and two different Ooma support reps). One problem, of course, is that the Ooma, which you're trying to get working, is the unit through which you are calling. So when the support rep asks that you unplug the Ooma (to get it to reboot for example), you lose the call. Also, of course, if there's a power outage you have no phone service and no 911 calling ability. (A landline provides its own power.)
After some hours of frustration, I decided that this unit is not for my setup (new desktop Dell, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, separate modem and router). I told them to cancel the account and learned that, to return as an Ooma customer, I would have to pay $80 for reinstatement. That is, if you leave, they REALLY do not want you as a customer. Makes sense, I guess.
I hope that some other company does a better job of the technology and I can try again. (I do use Skype, BTW, which performs flawlessly.)

Summary: OOMA phone system
Phone clarity could be better. Occasionally I will get feedback while talking. It sounds like an echo.
