The ragtag crew of Serenity take on a scavanger mission with the hopes of earning enough dough to disappear for a while. Only too late do they realize the whole gig is orchestrated by an old enemy eager remake their aquanitance with the help of some covert-operatives known only as the Blue Gloves. Artist Will Conrad (Marvel's Elektra and Witches) and colorist Laura Martin (Astonishing X-Men and The Ultimates) paint a rough and wild world of adventure across a strange and dangerous universe, in this not-to-be-missed tale straight from the brain of pop-culture mastermind Joss Whedon!

Summary: So-so.

While this part of my order was received on time, I would have expected better, more expedient shipping from Amazon. The book arrived in fine condition, but it took quite a while to arrive.

Summary: Not bad, but lacking

There is something to be said for a piece of work that leaves you wanting more. It is another prospect entirely when you aren't given much to start with. There are a few tales (essentially) packed into this trade, but none of them are given the full treatment as, say, one of the Firefly episodes had. There is little to no backstory in the intersecting tales that all come into play. The dialogue is sparse, and the usual character development is spotty at best.

Still, this is a good read, and probably a must-own for Firefly/Serenity/Joss-Whedon fans. It does continue the story of Serenity and her crew from where the TV series (Firefly) left off. It sets up a bit of the movie (Serenity) as well, but only marginally so. In fact, this really appears to be a compensation for the gap between the show and the film, though it does not directly come across as such.

There are brief glimpses of the dialogue that made the original show so enjoyable, especially the verbal sparring between Jayne and Mal, along with the tension surrounding Inara and the Captain. Zoe and Wash have a sparse amount of humorous exchanges, and the Simon/Kaylee situation remains about the same. River probably has the best lines in the book and she is woefully underwritten as well.

As I said, though, this is not a bad read by any stretch, it just lacked a bit. Yes, it certainly left me wanting more, but I also felt like what I had simply wasn't enough. Consider it an appetizer without much substance or flavor, but still essentially in the completion of the full-course meal. I liked it, I just wish there was more to it. I still think it's a must-add to your collection if you're a really huge fan of the genre, series, film, or creative mind behind it all. Also, the artwork and coloring are quite good!

Summary: I never got my book

My book was shipped to my old address and it has yet to be sent to me. Neither Amazon or the apartment where the book was shipped will help. I was also told I cannot get my money back. I will buy this again but from another source.

Summary: Firefly hasn't made a sucessful comic book transition yet.

Its is frustrating that Angle and Buffy have made such successful jumps to world of comics while the Firefly crew just flounders. I have found these comics convoluted and paced to quickly. While the writer does seem to understand the characters he doesn't take any anytime to explore their motivations or relationships. Firefly was always about the characters and these comics just felt like a generic slap dash action story.

Summary: Greatly Enjoyed It.

I like that Joss decided to keep the story going in comic format. I can't wait to get the others. I thought it was too small, but that can't really be helped. You have to remember that this takes place after the show, but before the film. I liked how well the artwork represented the characters. It was definitely worth the money.
