Product Description

Winner, Benjamin Franklin Silver for Travel

The first and oldest national park in the world can be enjoyed mile by mile with this complete travel guide. Along with fascinating facts and anecdotes, readers will learn of Yellowstone's geyser basins and the frequency of the geysers, out-of-the-way hikes, and flora and fauna. Easy-to-understand scientific explanations and diagrams complement an array of short walks, the right season for camping, and the park?s campgrounds and facilities. Updated road logs highlight more than 100 historical points of interest, including the often misidentified locale from which artist Thomas Moran painted his “Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone? masterpiece and where five stagecoach robberies occurred along the Grand Loop Road. New text examines areas that have changed in recent years, including the reconstructed Canyon-to-Dunraven Pass and the newly completed North Rim Drive at the Grand Canyon. Additionally, numerous new photographs feature historical and contemporary images

Summary: THE guide to use at Yellowstone

This is one of two books we relied on in our trip last week to Yellowstone (the other is the hands down best day hiking book - "A Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone Day Hikes"). Despite the fact that we visitied at the busiest time of year, this book guided us to pristine picnic areas where we were completely alone. The referenced mileage markers also make it extremely easy to find everything that is listed. If you take this book with you, you will be extremely pleased.

Summary: Indispensible To Enjoy Yellowstone!

We spent 3 days in Yellowstone Park. This guide is GREAT for those who want to do car tours with short hikes and see the major features. It is not for those who want back country information or long hikes. The guide is laid out with mileages in either direction so as you drive along the loop roads, you can locate ALL the spots mentioned easily. There are many things pointed out and explained that are not on the park roadmaps or information. Using this guide greatly increased our enjoyment and knowledge of Yellwostone. What a find!

This is one of the best travel guides I have used. It was clear and made the trip to Yellowstone even better by helping us plan our trip. Excellent maps and good information.

Summary: Absolutely Essential Guide for Yellowstone National Park

I just want to add my own glowing review to those that are already here. This book is one of the most helpful books out there for Yellowstone. It is like a mini-version of the Alaska Milepost book that tells you mile by mile (and kilometer) all the treasures along the way. There were so many times we stopped at sights described in the book while others drove right past hidden waterfalls and beautiful areas. Our trip in May 2010 was enriched by the guidance of this book. You should definitely purchase one. Additionally the Moon guide for Yellowstone and the Tetons was invaluable for the information about the treasures in the Tetons.
